Description
Included in this resource are 85 cards with an individual and a brief description of individual’s significance to Black history. Descriptions are very simple, basic, and easy for elementary students to ready.
This product is intended for children in early elementary grades depending on ability level. But, it can be adapted for older children if you chose to have them memorize facts, or even familiarize themselves with the basics of these individuals’ contributions to Black history.
Check out The Fancy Counselor for more resources.
Suggested uses:
- Partner Quizzing
- Center time matching game by printing two copies on card stock (or paper and laminating-lamination can be sanitized)
- Sorting Activity-I’ve also included 2 sorting mats if you choose to have children sort by category or by individuals they already know, and individuals they do not yet know. The sorting mats can give you good data on who you might want to teach out.
PLEASE NOTE: Using the resource as a game is at the discretion of the teacher and is IN NO WAY intended to minimize or simplify any of the contributions of Black people to American history, nor is the suggestion intended to offend, deem “small,” make light of, or belittle the struggles of any marginalized group whatsoever. This product is intended to teach facts.
It is recommended that the cards be used as a supplement to lessons or storybooks about individuals, but of course is not necessary and is up to you.
