This resource is a great way to introduce a black history topic that isn’t often covered in elementary and lower middle school. It gives children a very basic baseline of knowledge about sharecropping. A great stand-alone resource, it can also be a nice compliment to your other black history or reconstruction instruction

Why You Need This

Can be used as a supplement to any Black History or Black History Month classroom lesson.

Please note: This resource does NOT CONTAIN any activities, suggestions, or assignments, or text that ask students to simulate or pretend they are sharecroppers. There are no sample contracts or assignments where students attempt to plan out a sharecropping budget, or imagine themselves as sharecroppers. This is, in my opinion as a former teacher with a background in history and Black history, educationally irresponsible and unethical given the violent and abusive history of sharecropping in the United States. With this resource, your students will read passages, learn historical facts about sharecropping as it pertains to Black history, pull vocabulary from the text, and reflect on the topic. This note is simply to clarify for potential buyers my position on why my resources do not include that, and also to clarify exactly what is included so there is no confusion for buyers. :-)
