Description
Directions: Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), are the state standards for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level, or in each course in Texas. For this project, you will need to pick a knowledge standard from the unit and make an anchor chart illustrating and explaining the content within the standard in an organized and simplified manner. As you complete the anchor chart on your knowledge standard, you should also complete a minimum of five skills standards and document them on the back of your anchor chart. This set of projects is intended for 8th grade Texas U.S. History Classes.
Units Included (11 Projects-66 pages):
- Exploration and Colonization
- American Revolutionary War
- Constitution of the U.S.
- Early Republic
- Age of Jackson
- Westward Expansion
- Industrial Revolution
- Reform Movements
- Causes of the Civil War
- The U.S. Civil War
- Reconstruction
Each Packet/Unit Includes: Directions, a rubric, lists of knowledge and skills standards (specific to that particular unit), and brainstorming worksheets to help your students "unpack" and breakdown the TEKS.
I have cardstock paper and paper book covers (they use the back of) that they can use. Some students opt to use their own posterboard and I allow that as well. This is a great way for your students to really focus in on a TEKS standard and to become an expert! I have my students complete this project at the beginning of each unit. Then we display them so as we learn, they have the anchor charts displayed around the room and in the hall ready to go! I also tend to have students who selected that TEKS standard stand up and tell us a little about it when we get to that particular TEKS-based lesson.
