A Unit Focusing on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit

An understanding of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit is an important component of Christian and Catholic growth and development.  This unit provides an interesting and hands-on approach to the study of these precious gifts.  Perfect for Confirmation studies, religion class, and RE, this unit can also make a wonderful enrichment study for young people and adults alike.

• Definitions and Introduction:  Students explore the definitions of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
• Journaling Questions:  Through journaling students look at the gifts in relation to themselves, each other, and the world around them.
• Focus on the Saints:  Students look to the saints for examples of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
• What Do You Know?: Students do research (using the Internet or other materials that you provide) on ten questions to discover more about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Key included. A PowerPoint is provided for going over the answers with your class.
• Crossword Puzzle: Students review the definitions of the gifts of the Holy Spirit with a crossword puzzle. Key included.
• Prayers for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit:  Through directed exercises, students reflect upon a prayer on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and then compose their own prayers to our Lord.
• A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words: Students personally conceptualize the gifts of the Holy Spirit by first briefly studying mosaic and stained glass art and then creating their own visual representations of one of the gifts.
• Unit Test:  Students demonstrate their knowledge of the gifts of the Holy Spirit with a unit test. This test contains 7 matching, 3 fill in the blank, 4 short answer, and 2 short essay questions. Key included.
