Description
This Valentine's Day Middle School Math Activity is a fun way to practice Adding and Subtracting Integers. No Prep Math & Art Group Project: Graphing on the Coordinate Plane (4 Quadrants).
Practice ordered pairs plotting and adding & subtracting integers by using this 4-page collaborative project.
You can use it for Valentine’s Day or at any time of the year.
Collaborative version (in groups of 4): students complete four separate mystery pictures, cut them out, and then tape them together to reveal one large mystery picture.
First, students must add and subtract integers to reveal the hidden x or y coordinates. Each of the four parts of the picture has 15-24 problems to solve.
Then, they graph the ordered pairs in all four quadrants on the coordinate plane to create their part of the picture.
All 4 parts of the picture will be graphed on a four quadrant graph. All points are represented by integers only.
Why do students love mystery picture graphing? They love discovering the next parts of the picture and guessing what it will be. This motivates them to do more and more math tasks. It also allows students to know if they have the correct answer, without the teacher releasing the answer key.
This geometry math activity is an engaging way to practice ordered pairs plotting. The picture is to be graphed in all four quadrants (positive and negative whole numbers). All points are represented by whole numbers, there are no fractions or decimals.
