Description
Students will review map skills and research skills by going on a geography treasure hunt throughout Africa. There are 36 questions and each answer is either a country, city, landform, landmark, or number. Three questions have students identify which locations correspond to 9 latitude and longitude coordinates.
There are then 2 questions to determine where the "treasure" is located (one letter from some of the previous questions will give students what they need to find the location). They must identify the country and the specific landform within the country to "find the treasure." They will then creatively, but plausibly, describe how they could retrieve the "treasure" from said location. Lastly, students will draw or describe what the treasure is that they have uncovered.
Time permitting, a map is included where students can mark the locations of each answer. The answers are included and if your students have access to research materials this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--In which country can you visit Yoboki National Park?
--Between which two countries is Mt. Muhabura located?
--Which country is located within a country?
--Which desert is the oldest in the world?
--Where would you go to visit the “Roof of Africa?”
--Which is the shortest river on the continent?
--Which cities can be found at the following 3 coordinates?
--Which mountain range is on Africa’s northwest coast?
--Which two nations are largely covered with ergs?
--What divides the Sahara from the savanna?
--Which countries are on the equator?
