Description
This lesson package is all about Charles V. Via PowerPoint, students will look at Charles' family tree to see how he came to power and review what they might remember of him from their study of the Reformation.
Then, students will take on writing his obituary! To prepare, they will read two texts about Charles V (one a biography, the other a primary source). In addition, they will have the opportunity to review celebrity obituaries online (a link to one is provided in the PowerPoint) so as to understand what is expected.
Finally, they will put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard!) to write an obituary capturing Charles V's achievements and struggles with an eye to why he is perhaps the ultimate absolute monarch.
*Note: While this is designed to be started in a 50-minute class period, the assignment will likely take additional time and need to be continued for homework.
