Description

Students will read and analyze excerpts from Albert Beveridge and the Anti-Imperialist League on United States imperialism, specifically with regard to America's involvement in the Philippines, by answering 33 questions. They will also analyze 10 political cartoons according to 7 more questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:

--In what way(s) does the 7th paragraph support his argument for imperialism?
--What could the platform mean by “the spirit of 1776?” How was it going to be affected by American actions in the Philippines?
--Why would opposition not cease with the destruction of Filipino self-government?
--Rewrite the 4th paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Which of Beveridge’s points did the Anti-Imperialist League most successfully counter and why?

--Where are the messages of images A and B most reflected in the texts and why? Give a historical example to support each.
