Description
Students read excerpts of President Jackson's address on Texas' Independence and potential annexation into the United States and answer 15 questions. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate! The reading itself is a bit more than a page and a half.
Sample questions include:
--When were the House of Representatives and the Senate willing to acknowledge Texas’ independence?
--Why would “responsibility” be involved when acknowledging independence?
--How could this lead to increased tension, or even war, between the United States and Mexico?
--Explain some of the consequences were Jackson to prematurely acknowledge Texas’ independence.
--Why does Jackson describe the issue of Texas Annexation a matter of “peculiar delicacy?”
