Description
It’s Back to School time again! Time to create connections, set expectations, establish a class routine, and build rapport! STATIONS will allow you to do this more efficiently in about 2 class periods.
This 8 Station resource is completely editable so you can add, edit or delete anything that doesn’t work for your class! Allow approximately 10 minutes for students to complete each station. Stations can be completed in any order. Feel free to delete any station not applicable to your class it won’t affect the overall activity. Teacher Directions for EACH station are included!
Stations included: (Activities intended for 7th-12th grade students)
1- Introduction Activity. This activity allows students to get to know other students in the class by challenging them to discover 10 things they have in common following set parameters.
2- Team Building. This activity challenges groups of 3-4 to work together to build the tallest tower in the class in the amount of time given but the rules must be followed! Fun!
3- Cell phone Policy. This activity allows students to watch a 2 minute video on the impact of inappropriate (i.e. social media) cell phone use in the classroom and connect it to your personal cell phone policy. I have included a Cell Phone Policy handout to share with students- edit it to fit your needs.
4- Google Classroom/Class Syllabus. This activity allows students to take a look at your Google Classroom and class syllabus. I have included a Class Syllabus template- edit it to make it yours! Don't use G.C? Simply delete that part!
5- Class Procedures. This activity allows students to look through a slide presentation (included) to learn your class procedures, rules and expectations. I have included a fully editable template slide show in Google Slides format- simply edit it to make it your own.
6- Study the Teacher. This activity allows students to get to know you, the teacher, by examining 6 of your favorite things (or photos).
7-Illustrated Name. This activity allows students to make an illustrated nameplate- unique to their interests- that can be used to decorate their class folder, desk or class bulletin board.
8- Why Study History. This activity is OPTIONAL, if you don’t teach history simply delete it or change the quotes to fit your class subject. This activity requires students to read 3 quotes about the importance of learning history (or your subject) and share their opinion (Graffiti style on large butcher paper) on the ideas presented.
***At each station, students respond to a short question or set of questions with their group and REFLECT INDIVIDUALLY. All handouts, station table tents, and station directions are included.
Materials needed for the stations you need to provide: paper, large piece of butcher paper or poster, tape, scissors, colors, markers, access to a computer (2 stations). Also the teacher needs to bring 6 of their favorite objects from home (can be photos) to show students.
