Product Description
This eight-page handout set is designed for 4th and 7th grade Texas history or ELAR students and teachers. It coincides with a cartoon music video available for free on YouTube.
This set chronicles the adventures of a Spanish conquistador named Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca, who arrived in the New World as part of the failed Narvaez expedition to seek the golden city of Apalachee in modern-day Florida. He will eventually become the first European to set foot in Texas.
This handout includes academic vocabulary related to the story with a page devoted to defining the terms. Each page features text and an image from the Cabeza De Vaca cartoon music video. Each page also features a QR code that takes the reader to the video on YouTube.
The lyrics to the song are also included. This set would work well as a class assignment or as homework. Students could watch the video in class as a hook before beginning the handout.
The set features grade-appropriate text in short chunks. This set can be used to review reading skills such as summation, main idea and context clues and vocabulary development.
