Description
This BUNDLE includes 5 total Google products to teach and review cardinal and intermediate directions. This standard is typically introduced in either 3rd or 4th grade and reviewed in both 5th and 6th grades.
Product One: Google Slides Mini - Lesson
Eight slides are included to review and discuss cardinal and intermediate directions. The concept of why these directional terms are needed and a description of a compass rose is included.
Product Two: Google Forms
24 digital task cards provide students with a variety of practice opportunities that will keep them engaged and active learners while they use directional terms based on a map of the United States. (Map NOT included - Any standard map of the United States will allow students to complete the task cards.)
Task Cards 1-2: Identify the Directional Terms
- Definitions are given and students must choose the match
Task Cards 3-8: Using Cardinal Directions
- Students are asked to relate states to others using cardinal directions
Task Cards 9-14: Using Intermediate Directions
- Students are asked to relate states to others using intermediate directions
Task Cards 15-20: Identify the Direction
- Students are given a starting and ending destination and asked to identify the direction
Task Cards 21-24: Name the State
- Students are given a starting location and direction and asked to find a possible ending destination
Product Three: Google Slides Scavenger Hunt
Students use a map of the United States to answer 10 questions based on both cardinal and intermediate directions. (Map NOT included - Any standard map of the United States will allow students to complete the task.) This hunt provides students with the opportunity for more freedom in their answers. A key is included to show one set of possibilities, but answers for each slide will vary.
Product Four: Google Slides Floor Plan Creation - Answer Key Included
Four Total Slides
- Slide One: Interactive Compass Rose - Students move directional terms to the appropriate places on the compass.
- Slide Two: Blank Floor Plan - Students use the directions given on the last two slides to drag moveable pieces into the appropriate places on the floor plan.
- Example: When you enter the home by climbing the stairs to the front door, you are in the entryway. Drag the bench along the western wall.
- Slides Three & Four: Directions for how to move the pieces onto the floor plan on slide two.
Product Five: Google Forms Assessment
15 total questions
- Students are shown a map of intersecting roads from Downtown, USA. They must use the information to navigate the streets. Questions range from general direction questions to higher order thinking questions in which students analyze routes. The last two questions are presented in a 'grid' format. Students are asked to read statements and determine which are true and which are false.
