Christmas STEM Activity

Students will be working in groups of three to try to build the largest standing structure out of wrapping paper. The structure must be able stand on its own for 30 seconds.

Each group will get a roll of wrapping paper, a roll of clear tape and masking tape, a roll of Christmas ribbon, a stopwatch, measuring tape, and 2 pairs of scissors.

They will be drawing and writing out a design plan and then actively work out their design plan to build their structure.

They will have 10 minutes to discuss, write out, and draw their design plan.

Then they will have 10 minutes to build.

After 10 minutes, they will measure their structure and the teacher will go around the room and test each structure to see if it can stand for 30 seconds.
