Description
Are you tired of teaching the Civil War battles the same way year after year? Here's a fun and unique twist! This year my students are really into emojis. I fought the trend for a while, now I'm embracing the obsession! This got me to thinking . .. . why not combine battles and emojis? Check out the comments left below by other teachers!
---------"This might be one of my favorite lesson plans ever. Students were engaged, information was relevant, and the students retained all the information. Well done!!"
______"AMAZING!!! Incredibly high engagement. I put my students into teams and made it a competition. Need more stuff like this!!"
This is not meant to be an in-depth study of the battles of the Civil War! It could be used an in introductory activity or even a summary activity at the end of your Civil War unit. This is my absolute favorite lesson in my entire store!
In this lesson, students will rotate around in stations (I suggest groups of 2 or 3) - each featuring a battle/event of the Civil War. At each station they will read a 1 page summary of the battle, then sort emoji's/images that fit parts of the summary and put them in order of the battle. (You cut these up and put them in baggies). There are approximately 5 emojis per battle with 2 distractor emojis that they will separate - just to keep students on their toes! When they finish sorting the emojis, they will record the order on a summary graphic organizer. They should rotate around the room to complete each battle.
My students LOVED this activity that I used as an introduction to the Civil War.
