IDEA #1: Laminate each of the pages and cut out the boxes. Mix up the cards and lay them flat up on a surface. The students will search for 1 blue card and 1 red card that could be added to create 1 compound word. Then, they can record their word combinations on the recording sheet that is written out in addition sentence formats. Students draw cards that can be added to create compound words. With red and blue text, the students will become familiar with seeking out words within compound words!
IDEA #2: Laminate each of the pages and cut out the boxes. Hand cards to the students. Play music and have the students move around the designated area. When the music stops, they must find a person who has the opposite color (red / blue) and a word that they can smash up with to make a compound word!
