Earth Worm STEM Challenge and Science Exploration

This is a ready to use STEM lesson featuring the story Yucky Worms! This is a fun STEM activity and science exploration! This lesson gives students a chance to explore living worms and then to solve a real-world problem for worms! (Being stuck on the side-walk) After reading the story, students are asked to explore worms with a magnifying glass! After they have learned and explored with living worms. Students are then asked to engineer a device to help move worms that get stuck on a sidewalk after a rain back to the soil - safely! This lesson gives you information about the book, links to videos for the book, and then video links so show kids more about worms! Then it gives you the challenge, suggested materials, and guides you through the process of getting kids ready to complete the challenge. This one is set-up to be used with Kindergarten to 2nd grade. Upper grades may enjoy this challenge too. I use the book as the hook and then turn the problem into our STEM challenge. I have my students for 45 minutes at a time.
