Description
In this lesson, students will learn about and analyze up to eight economic indicators through a lecture, DBQ including graphs, research, and Doodle Notes to determine the concept, purpose, and use of economic indicators.
This lesson includes:
1. PowerPoint including 16 slides
2. Economic Indicator DBQ Readings w/ Graphs - 4 Indicators (BLS, CCI, CPI, and Personal Income and Outlays Report)
3. Two Page Doodle Notes - 2 versions: Blank & Fill-in-the-Blank (Plus an Exemplar/Sample!)
4. Research Page for more economic indicators
5. Gallery Walk Note Sheet - or - Differentiated Notes Sheet
This activity can be completed in 3 ways:
Lecture - Teacher delivers lecture and students take notes on two types of Doodle Notes (Blank or Fill-in-the-Blank; Differentiated Notes Sheet included as Gallery Walk Note Sheet). Exit Ticket may be completed on a post-it, or the like, to assess students understanding of the concept and purpose of economic indicators.
DBQ & Group Presentation - Teacher delivers the first few slides (indicated in the PowerPoint) and students take notes using one of the two Doodle Notes Sheets (or Differentiated Note Sheet included as Gallery Walk Note Sheet). Teacher groups students into teams and models how to present an economic indicator (model slide included in PowerPoint). Teacher distributes last three readings to groups (I like to have six groups, this way each indicator is presented twice). Groups read and analyze the texts and graphs using the embedded document-based questions and the Doodle Notes Sheet as a guide, then students present. The audience takes notes on their Doodle Notes Sheet. The Exit Ticket may be assigned to assess students understand of the concept and purpose of economic indicators.
Research & Gallery Walk - Teacher delivers the first few slides (indicated in the PowerPoint) and students take notes using one of the two Doodle Notes Sheets (or Differentiated Note Sheet included as Gallery Walk Note Sheet). Teacher distributes the Research Page and models how to present an indicator to students (model slide included in PowerPoint). Students research each of the listed indicators, and then are told which indicator they will create a poster on. Posters are hung around the room and students take notes on the Gallery Walk Sheet for each indicator. The Exit Ticket may be assigned to determine students understanding of the concept and purpose of economic indicators.
*Instructions are also available in the PowerPoint (prior to each section)
