Description

Students will read excerpts from President Eisenhower's 1957 address on school integration and his decision to send Federal Troops to Arkansas to ensure that desegregation at Central High School in Little Rock was followed through on, answer 17 questions, and complete 1 creative task commemorating the Little Rock 9 (Little Rock Nine). The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Which Supreme Court Case led to the events in Little Rock, and why?
--Explain why Eisenhower took it upon himself to issue the referenced Proclamation.
--Did Eisenhower act within the bounds of the Executive Branch, why or why not?
--Explain the role, or influence of, “all deliberate speed” in this situation.
--How does Eisenhower assure the people each level of government is staying in its bounds/jurisdiction?
--Provide 3 examples from the historical context that Eisenhower might have had in mind when he referenced the “grave situations abroad” and the “hatred Communism bears.”
--What would you title this speech (given the opportunity) and why?
