Description

This is a ready to use STEM Challenge featuring the story Duck For President. It does correlate with GA 2nd grade Social Studies Standard - SS2CG2. This lesson can help enrich your social studies lesson on elections and government. It can also be a stand alone STEM Challenge to help students understand elections and government. It features the cute story Duck For President. Then it asks students to engineer and design a ballot box that can keep votes secure! After learning about both elections and voting, students will be asked to engineer ballot box! Students will each get to ask a question for the students in the class to vote on (A Yes or No question). Then each student will be able to cast a vote in each students ballot box. Then each student will have to count and tally the votes! I have my students for 45 minutes at a time. This lesson gives you the challenge, suggested materials, and guides you through the process of getting kids ready to complete the challenge. This one is set-up to be used with 2nd through 5th grade. You could possibly extend it into a two or three week lesson activity. This does include a planning sheet. It also includes ballots, voting pins/stickers, and a question sheet for students to ask their voting question. Please feel free to share any feedback. I have more resources if you feel this one was helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my resources!
