Description
This printable escape room will help you channel the excitement of the holiday while students learn about the first Thanksgiving. It’s a great way to have students work together to problem solve. By figuring out six puzzles related to the Pilgrims, they will come up with a code that will let them escape from Plymouth Rock in time to eat Thanksgiving dinner. They will think hard and have a blast doing it!
In this escape room, the scenario is: While reading about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, you fall into a deep sleep and wake up to find yourself wearing buckle shoes and a funny hat and realize you have been whisked back in time to Plymouth Colony. The students’ mission is to solve 6 challenges and use those "secret words" to come up with a 4-digit code that will allow them get out of the haunted house and get back home. As the timer counts down (suggested time is 30 minutes), participants will work with a partner or small group to solve 6 different kinds of puzzles in the allotted time.
The only preparation needed on your part is to copy the 6 puzzles and distribute them to student. Some teachers like to have students check each answer with them before progressing, but an optional Google Form is included so students can self-check as they solve each puzzle. Answers to each “lock” are typed into a Google Form, which tells them immediately if their answer is correct so they can move on to the next challenge. You may want to have a 4-digit combination lock available for students (NOT included) when they try their final code, but it is not necessary. There is a printable page included where you can write the code for students to check when they finish.
