Description

This printable escape room will help you extend students’ enjoyment after reading or listening to The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. It’s a great way to pump up student engagement, encourage teamwork, and practice following written directions. By solving six puzzles related to The Wild Robot, they will work together to come up with a code that will let them escape from the island with Roz. They will think hard and have a blast doing it!

In this escape room, the scenario is: After accidentally falling off a cruise ship and swimming to the island, they see Roz about to take off in the airship. They try to get on board but the door is locked. The students’ mission is to solve 6 challenges and use those "secret words" to come up with a 4-digit code that will allow them get on board the airship with Roz and get back to civilization. As the timer counts down (suggested time is 30 minutes), participants will work with a partner or small group to solve 6 different kinds of puzzles in the allotted time.

The only preparation needed on your part is to copy the 6 puzzles and distribute them to student. Some teachers like to have students check each answer with them before progressing, but an optional Google Form is included so students can self-check as they solve each puzzle. Answers to each “lock” are typed into a Google Form, which tells them immediately if their answer is correct so they can move on to the next challenge. You may want to have a 4-digit combination lock available for students (NOT included) when they try their final code, but it is not necessary. There is a printable page included where you can write the code for students to check when they finish.

This PDF includes:

•6 puzzle cards that can be copied in color or black & white

•Student instructions and explanation of “secret mission”

•Student recording sheet for answers

•Detailed instructions & suggestions for use

•Answer key for all 6 challenges

•4 congratulatory signs for “victory photos” after their success

•Optional Google Form for students to check their answers
