European Revolutions of 1830 and 1848 Reading Analysis

Students will read 6 passages on the revolutions across Europe in 1830 and 1848 (France, Austria-Hungary, Germany, Italy, Balkan Peninsula, Poland, Hungary, etc), fill out a graphic organizer, complete a vocabulary task, answer 25 questions, and respond to 5 creative tasks. This can be used as a jigsaw, stations, or individual/pairs packet (a teacher information page is included). This could work for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Who were ultraroyalists and what did they disagree with Louis about?
--Explain what led to the growth of secret societies and what they fought for.
--Explain the meaning of the phrase (by writing an explanation or by drawing a political cartoon), “When France sneezes, Europe catches cold.”
--Why did most uprisings at this time fail? What would success take?
--What determines who the “rebel” is and whether the revolutionaries are disruptive to society or changing it for the better? Can revolutionaries be both at the same time? Explain your thought process.
