Description
Critics call them "legislation by other means." Supporters defend them as a necessary tool for leading the country especially in the face of a Congress unwilling or unable to make tough choices. Whatever your position, the Executive Order has been used by presidents for good, for ill, and sometimes for just plain odd reasons.
In this print and teach lesson, created by Lori Sheets, students will read ten Executive Orders and will decide their impact on history by categorizing them into Good, Bad, or Weird. Some of the more notable presidential orders are Harry S Truman's desegregation of the Armed Forces or FDR's Japanese Interment Camps.
Students will also read and evaluate some lesser known orders such as Wilson's "Torch Hunting" or and Executive order about Executive Orders.
This lesson offers great discussion opportunities as well as evaluative writing opportunities. Simply print and begin...! I hope you enjoy!
