Exploring the Seven Continents

The main goal of this lesson is for students to examine and compare the different characteristics of the seven continents.

For the activity, there are 4 different options, based on information charts on each continent. Information charts on each continent average 240 words each. Information is divided into Size, Population, Climate, Physical Features/Environment, Economy, and Agriculture.

Activity Option 1 – Report Card Activity

Students pick one continent to focus on and grade it (A-F) on the various categories and explain their choice

Activity Option 2 – Match Up Activity

Students pick two continents to compare to one another. Based on each category, students decide which continent is better than the other and explain their decision

Activity Option 3 – Pick 3 Activity

Using the information charts, students pick the continent that…

1) They think is best to live in

2) They would most like to visit

3) They think is the hardest to live in

Activity Option 4 – Scavenger Hunt

Based on the information charts on the seven continents, “hunt” for the continent(s) that best fits the description provided:

Examples/Keys are provided for each activity option. However, note that most activities are open-ended, and answers/explanations can vary.
