Description

This PowerPoint, devised by INSPIReducation has been devised, developed and refined in the classroom to support accelerated progress in the mathematical area of FRACTIONS.

Accompanied by the MATHS BUILDER from INSPIReducation, these short, focused activities develop in complexity as the children move from one set of 5 or 8 questions onto the next. The pace of questions allows the children to embed their skills before moving on. The brilliant aspect of this design is that children see the bigger in their maths work - knowing how adding and subtracting link with finding the lowest common denominator, before putting both skills together in more complex, multi step problem solving. The children also see why they should learn how to multiply fractions by whole number or by other fractions before learning of division. The children then apply one skill into the solving of the next.

This PowerPoint covers 10 key areas of working within fractions:

  • Addition and Subtraction of fractions with the same denominator
  • Addition and Subtraction finding the Lowest Common Denominator
  • Addition and Subtraction mixed with the same/different denominators
  • Multiplication and Division of fractions by whole numbers
  • Multiplication and Division of fractions by other fractions
  • Equivalency of fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Finding fractions of amounts (simple and complex amounts)
  • Reducing fractions to their lowest terms
  • Changing improper fractions to mixed fractions and vice versa

The children will see their own progress, and for the teacher, this is your one stop shop to the teaching of fractions knowledge in your maths unit.

All questions have their own answer sheet to ensure assessment is quick and simple.
