Gathering Information

Gathering Information is a mini unit created to align with Section 1 of the unit "Time and Space" in the new Alberta Grade 5 social studies curriculum. It's completely laid out with teacher notes and a sequence of activities, so very little prep is required by the teacher.

The standards are:

1. Information can be gathered from a variety of sources to support understanding of relationships between people, events, and land. These sources include artifacts, maps, environment, timelines, and images.
2. Ancient civilizations used astronomy to indicate time and direction.
3. Time is measured in different ways.
4. Timelines are visual representations of periods of time.
5. Dates on a timeline can be grouped into periods shown as BCE and CE.
