Description

This Latin America (Central America and South America) lesson is set up for students to work in cooperative teams of 3-4 at Stations 1-6. At station Station 7, students will complete the journaling activity individually, as it is a time of reflection. Station 8 will require students to choose a finished product or activity and present it to the class. Use the grading rubric to assess the students. This lesson engages students and gets students engaged in cooperative learning through 8 different stations that focus on Latin American culture, politics, time zones, religions, and more.

Station Activities

Station 1: Create a mind map of problems in Latin America

Station 2: Finish Me Story Cooperative Writing Assignment

Station 3: Learn a Latin American Song

Station 4: What Time is it? Reading a time zone map.

Station 5: Latin America Current Events

Station 6: Latin America Skit

Station 7: (Individual Assignment) Reflective Journal

Station 8: Culminating Activity: Student will present their products.

Instructor Preparation

1. Arrange desks into six different stations.

2. Place a stamp at each station.

3. Copy and place any reproducible at each station. Laminate when necessary.

4. Make sure you have a timer so that you can monitor the time spent at each station. This lesson is set up for 15-minute stations; however, you may find that you need more or less time. Make modifications as needed.

5 Provide each student with a Latin America Passport. A blank is provided in the case that you need to change the reward system.

6. For some stations you may need Internet access, iPads if available, and a way to play mp4s from iTunes or from a CD, etc. Read the Station Preparation for each station listed under each Teacher Guide.
