Description
Students need to find math in the world around them to make it feel real, relevant, and important. Plus, fresh air and a bit of walking around inspires creativity and critical thinking. This resource can even be used as a scavenger hunt for finding shapes and making measurements are your school. This 2-page worksheet enables students to have fun by drawing circular shapes they find around their home or neighborhood, draw them, measure, and find area.
My students LOVED taking Math class outside that we did it once a week for a few weeks and added new three-dimensional shapes to a graphic organizer like this and had them measuring, drawing, and calculating real-life math all over our school grounds on Geometry Walks and at home. Circles are a great way to start.
Calculators are optional. A straight edge is preferred for neat drawing and shape replication.
This activity is multiple math tools, all in one document!
Excellent distance learning idea, that can be utilized at home, in a backyard, or anywhere.
