Description

Graphic Organizer: Expository Writing Map Elementary Montessori Research Writing - ROOKIE Montessori-inspired printable Creative Writing help (2 pages):

In my classroom, we simply refer to Expository Writing as “research writing.” This graphic organizer guides young writers to:
• Visually represent an idea or argument
• Research and investigate an idea and gather supporting evidence • Present a point of view or argument on the topic
• Plan, organize and execute an expository essay.

What is Expository Writing? Expository writing can be used for different purposes. It can be used to provide a reader with explanations, the steps in a process or evidence supporting an argument. The writing is defined by logical sequencing and transitions. When teaching a five paragraph essay, I give my students the metaphors of a train: Engine, train car, train car, train car and caboose. The 'bookends' holding the writing together are the introduction and conclusion paragraphs!

Dr. Maria Montessori believed the only way our world would find lasting peace was through educating our children. Much of her elementary curriculum was written by her during a period of internment in India during WWII. This time period helped solidify Dr. Montessori’s belief in Peace Education.
