Harlem Renaissance Activity Escape Room Digital Breakout Distance Learning
Description
This no prep, digital activity will keep students engaged as they read and apply their knowledge of the Harlem Renaissance. It is a self paced activity that is great for students to do in class or during remote learning.
Scenario: Your students are reading the poetry of Langston Hughes for homework when they fall asleep and begin to dream. They find themselves in 1920s Harlem, speaking to none other than Duke Ellington in the Cotton Club. In order to get back to their time and awake from the dream, they must listen to Duke and complete the escape activities that cover the events of The Harlem Renaissance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need physical locks? No. This is all digital.
How long will this take? Plan for about 45 minutes on average and adjust for grade level and ability.
What browser do I need? Your students will need access to Google and a Google account.
How do students access the activities? They will click on the cards and then make their own copy of each slide. They will get their combination for each lock from the slide and enter it into the form next to the cards.
What devices do I need? It will work with desktops, laptops, tablets and most phones.
Can I embed this in Google Classroom? No. However, you can link out from it. It will not show results in Google Classroom.
How can I grade the activity? You will not be able to see responses on the form. If your students are working remotely and you want to give a completion grade, an idea would be to have them send you a screenshot of the ‘Congratulations Message’ at the end. I have also included an optional printable answer sheet as well.
