Description

Cover lesson bundle:

As a teacher, sometimes we can't always be with our class due to illness, meetings, family emergencies or professional development, or sometimes we are teaching students remotely. But preparing for these lessons can be more work than being at school! The History Detective Podcast worksheet bundle is here to help.

This bundle is designed to be a cache of ready made lessons, so you can just email your students the worksheet, or pop it in your LMS and know that they have a fully developed lesson and through the use of a podcast the content is delivered in an engaging manner by a trained history teacher.

These worksheets are to go with the History Detective Podcast (Which is hyperlinked in the worksheets or available wherever you get your podcasts- Apple, Spotify, Google, Stitcher etc.)

The History Detective Podcast it a teaching resource written specifically for Middle Years and High School students. Each episode is between 15-20 minutes long and contains an original song that was written for the specific podcast topic. The worksheets are designed to work in tandem with the episodes and foster critical historical thinking skills.

Firstly the students engage in pre-listening vocabulary, then they listen to the episode (all links are embedded in the worksheet), then they work through the questions that are based around the historical concepts of analysis and evaluation. Skills include analysing primary sources for implicit meaning, motive, perspectives, context, evaluation sources for their usefulness and making judgements on their reliability. The lessons all include a section to analyse the lyrics of the song and there are links and opportunities for further research.

The Season One topics include:

Case 1: Rani of Jhansi during the Sepoy Rebellion- a context study for Indian Independence

Case 2: Mungo Man and the Ethics of Archaeology, repatriation of Indigenous bones

Case 3: Hōjō Masako the wife of the first Japanese Shogun

Case 4: The Cold War and Nuclear testing in Australia, its impact on the soldiers and Indigenous peoples.
