Description
This HOSA Week Celebration Bundle was created to give you ready-to-use activities, decorations, and games that celebrate healthcare and inspire your students. The goal is to highlight the importance of healthcare careers, show appreciation for healthcare workers, and give students fun ways to get involved in HOSA. These materials are flexible—you can use them during HOSA Week or at any time you want to spotlight the mission of HOSA in your classroom. I wanted to take the pressure off of you having to create and implement various activities and have some ready-to-go items you can allow your leaders and members to take ownership of.
I would like to briefly go over each item, however, all of the individual activities have their own set of instructions and guide. Several also have short video instructions to help understand the logistics of how they work. Included in the listings are some video clips showing previews of the Clue Game and Spinner Wheel. Be sure to check them out!
ITEMS INCLUDED:
“GIVE ME A CLUE: HEALTHCARE CAREERS”
PPT or Google Slides; PDF Handout
This game is designed to be played with your HOSA students either in the classroom or even at a meeting. The goal is to guess the Healthcare Career based on clues which get easier as they are revealed. More points are given if the career is guessed early. The player or team with the most points win! There are a lot of variations to playing the game which is explained in the game instructions. This activity comes with a presentation to be displayed using either PowerPoint or Google Slides as well as a hand-out for students to write in their guesses as the game is played with an optional bank of Healthcare Careers.
TREAT TAGS
PDF Printable
The treat tags were created to accompany various goodies and giveaways to the teachers and staff at your school. However, you could also use them as treat tags for any group of individuals you think would enjoy them. There are 6 tags that are specifically designed for Smarties, LifeSavers, bottles of water, Kit-Kats, hand sanitizer and Kleenex. There is also a generic one that you can assign to any treat. Each Treat Tag comes with information on a specific health topic, so you can spread joy and awareness! There is also an option to type in your school’s name before printing to eliminate the need to hand sign each tag.
HEALTH FACTS QUIZ GAME
PPT; PDF printable
This game is designed to be played with the students, teachers and/or faculty from your school. Set up a booth at lunch or during meetings and breaks and allow individuals to come take a shot at winning a prize. There are 40 teen-focused health questions with 3 multiple choice answers. A HOSA representative will ask the student a question, and a correct answer will earn them the right to spin the wheel and win a prize! In lieu of multiple prizes, the wheel can include numbers to represent the amount of times they can enter to win a larger prize. It is fully editable, so the possibilities are endless. The spinning of the wheel is accomplished by using a PowerPoint presentation, that when in play mode allows for endless spins of the wheel. There is also a version with an embedded macro that will randomly choose the question number, taking all the work out of presenting the game. The main focus of the activity is to spread vital health facts which aligns perfectly with the mission of HOSA.
HOSA WEEK CELEBRATION BULLETIN BOARD
PDF printable (color or black & white versions available)
A great way to spread awareness of HOSA Week is to have a nice display for everyone to see! The theme of “Healthcare Heros” highlights the roles of medical workers while giving stats and facts about the importance of healthcare professions. This download takes all the work out of putting up a bulletin board with all the pieces ready to go! Simply print, cut and attach to the board using one of the templates as a guide. The pieces are already scaled for a 4 ft x 6 ft bulletin board, but there are instructions for how to scale down to smaller sizes and ideas for how to adjust to a square shaped board. If color printing is an issue, there is a black and white version that can be hand colored and given whatever color scheme you want. This is a great project for some of your artsy HOSA members.
THANK YOU CARDS
PDF printable
A focus of HOSA week is giving back, especially to those who work in the medical industry. One simple way to do this is to send a hand-written note of appreciation. With 4 designs to choose from, these thank you cards can easily be printed on cardstock and cut. Give one to each HOSA member to fill out, or have a table to give all students, teacher and staff the opportunity to send their thanks. Deliver them to your local hospital, school nurse or any healthcare facility that could use a big thank you.
HOSA WEEK SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
PDF printable
If your school has morning or afternoon announcements, this is a great way to spread vital health-related information. Have a leader from your HOSA club volunteer to read out one of the 30-second health facts of the day to the school. There are 5 total, one for each day of the week, and focus on topics related to high schoolers. Instead of simply announcing that it is HOSA Week, this is a great way to also provide health education.
