Description
Welcome! I annually use this activity to complete the introduction of our Mendelian genetics unit in my middle school science class. Mendelian genetics is a substantial component of the seventh grade NGSS standards. It is essential to begin the unit using a user-friendly curriculum that will give students the confidence to decode the language to determine the probabilities and ratios of the offspring's genotype and phenotype for ensuing exercises. High school biology teachers could also benefit from this resource because secondary-level students need quality reinforcement guides and lessons.
This listing features a full-page sheet titled “How to Set Up a Mendelian Genetics Problem.” Teachers can display this resource on the Whiteboard and use it for an interactive walk-through how-to tutorial.
The other resource in this listing is a full-page fundamental Mendelian genetics problem set with a user-friendly layout. Students will determine the parental genotypes, set up and fill in a Punnett square, list the possible genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring, and state the genotypic and phenotypic ratios of the F1 (offspring) generation for four problems.
The Basic Mendelian Problems Set comes with a key with the answers in bold, red font. This PDF file set will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Program. I edited this resource with the premium version of Grammarly.
This activity complements the following lessons about genetics in my store.
