Description
Welcome! I created this vocabulary tournament bracket challenge to help my biology students pattern and differentiate the traits of various invertebrates among other animals.
Students will compare and contrast the presence of a backbone in round one, animal symmetry in round two, whether or not the animal possess stinging cells in round three, whether or not the remaining animal contestants undergo metamorphosis in their life cycle in round four, and if the two finalists are sessile (attached) or free-swimming in the championship round.
I included two supplementary pages that serve as animal contestant profile sheets. The use of the supplementary sheets is optional.
This PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using Adobe Acrobat.
I provided a key with the answers in red font.
In addition, students have the opportunity to create and fill in their own tournament bracket of invertebrates in a follow up single-page activity. This activity features a blank, miniature bracket for eight starting organisms (invertebrates) and explicit directions for students to follow.
I also offer a tournament bracket challenge activity for vertebrates, microbes (Protists, fungi, bacteria, & viruses), quantitative vocabulary terms, and for cellular transport vocabulary terms.
This resource complements the following activities in my store.
