Description
This is a fun, interactive activity on Jamestown using emojis! It now includes a Google Slides™ version!
For the print version of this lesson, students are put in groups of 2 or 3. Student #1 is the reader of a 2 page summary on Jamestown, which is included in this purchase. Student(s) #2/#3 are the emoji picture sorters. They hear cues from the reader and sort pictures (you cut them up and put them in baggies) relating to the summary in the order they hear them. After they are finished, they put the summary away and “retell” the story of Jamestown to their group using only the pictures. This strategy requires students to LISTEN CAREFULLY (always a good thing to teach) to decide when the emoji will fit in the story. When they have to retell the story, it requires them to review the story yet again. In other words, you have "hooked' your students into learning, reviewing and summarizing Jamestown - using EMOJIS! Instant hit with your students!
For the Google Slides™ version, students will drag and drop the emojis in the order of the story and draw arrows to the key words. Students will summarize how each emoji relates to the story of Jamestown and put the story of Jamestown in their own words.
