Description
In this powerful lesson, students will learn how problem-oriented policing focuses on analyzing specific crime problems and developing targeted solutions, while community policing emphasizes building relationships and engaging the community in problem-solving efforts.
OBJECTIVE
The students will be able to:
- Define terms associated with community-oriented policing (COP).
- Compare and contrast traditional law enforcement methods with COP.
- Analyze the similarities and differences between COP strategies and problem-oriented policing (POP) strategies.
- Assess what police departments must do to be effective in COP.
- Create methods to address crime in the community.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of COP and POP ideas presented by peers.
