Description
The school-to-prison pipeline refers to the troubling trend where disciplinary policies and practices in schools contribute to students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, being pushed out of educational environments and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. This phenomenon often arises from zero-tolerance policies, increased police presence in schools, and a lack of adequate support for at-risk students, leading to higher rates of suspensions and expulsions. Ultimately, the pipeline perpetuates cycles of inequality and disadvantage, effectively steering students away from educational opportunities and toward incarceration.
