Description
If you’ve ever said to your students, “I wish I could take you there in person!”, this virtual field trip is for you. Students will first learn a little history of the Statue of Liberty. Then they will feel like they are standing on Liberty Island by experiencing videos and Google Earth technology. Afterwards they will do some follow-up activities that include journaling, solving math problems related to the Statue of Liberty, and helping create an easy bulletin board. There is an optional quiz to assess learning.
It includes:
•A 20-slide editable Google Slides presentation
•Hyperlinked activities to complete before, during, and after the virtual field trip
•Blackline masters so you can make copies if desired
•Multi-subject integration (reading, writing, social studies, math) and multi-modal activities (videos, photos, Google Earth exploration, puzzles)
•Optional 15-point quiz to assess learning
•A complete list of links to videos, Google Earth activity, and Google docs
•Suggestions for use
This Google Slides presentation can be used in various ways, depending on your needs.
Ways to use this product:
- It can be done individually or with a partner, using the slides on any compatible device. This makes it a good option for home schooled students, students who will be doing their work at home due to absence or e-learning, or during centers while the teacher meets with small groups.
- It can be displayed for the whole class as a teacher-led lesson so that whole class discussion can enhance learning.
- Teachers can decide whether they want students to do their written work on their own devices (using a copy of the slides and typing their answers) or by using paper & pencil (running off copies of the blackline masters that are provided).
- The activities are designed to be enjoyable, interactive, and interdisciplinary, covering multiple standards of reading, writing, social studies, and math. If part of each day is devoted to this virtual field trip, it should take about a week to complete. If you want to devote an entire day to the virtual field trip as if you were actually taking the trip, it would take the majority of the day. Since it covers multiple subject areas, you could even have a substitute teacher use this with students and save yourself hours of writing out sub plans.
