Description

This Deck of BOOM! CardsTM are designed to allow student-scholars to learn about basic literary genres and to practice identifying the characteristics and some examples of poetry, prose, fiction, and non-fiction. Literary genres can be a very difficult area to teach, and yet, we are called upon to teach them all, often in isolation, and without explanation of how the different genres fit together, or what they mean. This Deck, which is the first in a series, was created to address this problem gap.

In between the direct teaching cards that ask and answer the questions, we have a number of activity/task cards that allow our student-scholars the opportunity to practice identifying the characteristics of the genres or what examples go with what genre. There are 9 direct teaching cards interspersed with 11 task cards that do NOT randomize. The final card (51) is my works cited card, and it will randomly appear – it’s never too early to model! Like most Decks of BOOM! CardsTM, this set does randomize the cards AFTER the 20th card. We want to maintain the logical flow of topics and questions.
