Target learning: Investigate the properties of a magnets

This is a folding lab sheet designed so the student can glue it in their science spiral or notebook

Students will investigate the properties of matter using tools such as magnets to determine what types of materials are attracted and which are not attracted to a magnet.

Students define, describe, and classify matter based on physical properties of magnetism.

This lab will get the students up and moving around the room. Students will stay engaged as they learn and discover all the properties magnets have.

The students will discover that there are about 95 metals in the world but only three have the property of being a magnet or attracting to a magnetic. The molecules in the iron have the ability to line up in a positive to negative pattern and create a magnetic field.
