This product brings together two of our key products which support the teaching of time from Grade 1 to Grade 5. This bundle includes two products - with more on their way...

Telling the Time - 16 Graduated Worksheets and Answer Key

This product has been designed to use with many grades and supports teachers in assessing the skills of their students ability in telling the time. Within the 16 worksheets, students will prove that they can achieve the following:

  • o clock
  • half past
  • quarter past and quarter to
  • minutes past (5, 10, 20 and 25)
  • minutes to (25, 20, 10 and 5 to)
  • minutes past and to (beyond 5 minute intervals)
  • am and pm
  • converting words into clock face times (analogue)
  • Digital time
  • Match digital to analogue times
  • Match analogue clock times to words
  • Roman Numerals
  • 24 hour clock - match times to clock faces
  • Telling the time using 24 hour clock faces
  • Matching 24 hour clock to am and pm times
  • Review 1 and Review 2 sheet

This pack provides everything the teacher needs to assess the learning of their students in the topic of telling the time. As well as the 16 worksheets, and answer key is also included to support the assessment of the learning and speed at which this can be done.

Each of the skills is on a different worksheet, so differentiation is simple - assess what the student needs, provide opportunities for them to learn the skill within the classroom and use the appropriate worksheet to assess and check on the skill being learnt.

These worksheets make great home learning, early morning activities, math center tasks or early finisher activities too.

Classroom Clock Face Display Resources

This resource was developed for our classrooms to support children in being able to tell the time in a variety of ways. We noticed that with the use of phones, our children's ability to tell the time in analogue, words and using Roman Numerals had all but disappeared.

This resource was designed to be printed, cut up, and placed around the classroom clock face.

The preview below shows the 5 different displays that can be developed in your classroom, depending on the needs and stage of your children within their learning.

The 5 different displays include:

  • Language of time (past and to)
  • Minutes of time (past and to)
  • Digital time presentation and minutes
  • Roman Numerals
  • Clock wise, anti-clockwise/counter clockwise labelling

These resources can also be all placed together on one clock face, or changed over time as the children's learning and skills develop.

Problem Solving: Durations in Time using clock faces (digital, analogue, 12 hour and 24 hour)

This product places telling the time in context of real-life scenarios. It builds on the skills of students being able to tell the time using an analogue clock and a 24 hour clock face and finding the duration between start and end times of various activities.

Each problem contains a range of skills:

1) Telling the time using an analogue clock face or 24 hour clock face

2) Recording the time in digital form, or words (teacher preference)

3) Solving the duration from the start time to the end time of the activity

4) Working out the duration in total minutes

5) Converting total minutes into hours and minutes

6) Drawing clock hands onto clock faces to represent given digital times (12 hour and 24 hour)

There are 24 problems in total to solve, and each page develops the complexity of the questions:

1) Duration of minutes within the same hour

2) Duration of minutes crossing one hour

3) Duration of minutes crossing more than one hour

4) Reading 24 hour clock

5) Drawing clock hands onto clock faces to represent given times (12 hour and 24 hour)

Our students loved these problems as it allowed them to really understand how to work out durations by viewing two clock faces for each problem, counting up to the hour, then from the hour to the next hour, then the additional minutes of the final hour. It made a lot of sense to them, and supported the continual development in the area of time.

Best wishes
