Description
This product has been developed to bring a bit of a challenge to the learning and memorising of times tables - as well as a competitive edge to knowing them.
Preparation
When you download this product, you will receive 11 pages of 12 playing cards.
Each playing card has four questions on it.
Print the cards and cut them up so that you have a stack of 132 cards.
Using the cards is easy:
Each card has a large number on the right hand side - this is the times table that card is using. In a 2 x 2 grid, there are four other numbers followed by the multiplication symbol. Simply add the times table number to the end of the number sentence. For example, if the large number is 8, that means that the four numbers in the grid must all be multiplied by 8.
These games can be played independently, in pairs or in teams and are incredibly versatile - not to mention competitive.
Solo Playing
- Decide on the times table you wish to play with and put those cards in a pile face down.
- To begin with, turn one card over. How fast can you answer the four questions on the card?
- If they are all correct, move onto the next card and so on. If you make a mistake, work out the correct answer - remember it as that question will come up again and again and again - enabling you to remember that answer.
- When you are confident you can play with more cards and more tables until all 132 cards in are in play - that's 528 questions going all the way from 1 x 2 to 12 x 12.
Duo Play
- As with solo play - decide on a times tables to play.
- Decide who is to play first and who will be the question master.
- The question master holds the cards and reads each of the four questions on each card. Keep score of how many correct answers are given.
- As soon as the first player makes a mistake - review the answer and then swap roles.
- Can player two beat player ones total?
- Alternatively - play a speed game. Player two sets a timer for a specific time, e.g. 60 seconds. Player two then reads player one as many questions as they can in the time and keeps a score of the correct answers in one minute. How many did they achieve? Can player two beat that score?
- When feeling confident, set the timer for longer and introduce more, or even all of the cards.
We are sure that children will come up with lots of other games to play with these cards. Ultimately, they provide an exciting opportunity for children to learn, remember and embed their times tables knowledge.
Thank you for visiting our store - we hope that your students enjoy these resources as much as ours and continue to learn their math!
Best wishes
