Target learning: Test observable behavior while understanding that insects go through metamorphosis or change during their life cycle.
Fordable review sheet to be glued into the student’s science notebook or science interactive journal.
I included two lab sheet to pick from. One has a chart to fill out and one has area for the students to write notes about their observations. This is a great lab that your students will always remember. This is a real world hands on engaging investigation into understand that most insects go through metamorphosis.
Students will use a meal worm.
Meal worms are not worms. They are the larvae of grain beetles. Most insects including beetles have four stages in its life cycle. There are four stages of metamorphosis called egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Some other insects have three stages of metamorphosis call egg, nymph, and adult. Each kind of animal goes through its own stages of growth and development during the life span of the animals. Animals also have life spans of varied length. Living thinks are affected by and affect the environment. The life of an animal is affected by the environmental conditions. The behavior of animals may change when the environment changes.
