Description

This download of print-and-go music math worksheets & activities will save you prep time, engage your students, and can easily be left for a sub!

Included in this download, you'll receive the following musical math activities:

MUSIC MATH WORKSHEETS

In order to help students comprehend musical note values, I like to challenge them with Musical Math Worksheets like these. This collection includes 14 Worksheets increasing in "challenge" level and geared towards elementary music students through middle school. These worksheets require NO PREP on your part so you can pull these out throughout the year, leave them for subs, etc. I use these for review, give them as timed tests, and challenge my students with the musical math questions.

*These worksheets are a good way to differentiate your lessons when you have students who need more of a challenge.*

 MUSIC MATH FORTUNE TELLERS

This collection of music math fortune tellers includes a teacher instructions document and 3 sets of fortune tellers with different musical math equations. Musical Math equations include addition & subtraction, notes & rests. They all have the same exterior colors (red, blue, green, and yellow) so that students can’t immediately tell if their friends have the same music math problems. I find that printing all 3 fortune tellers and randomly passing them out surprises the students and makes them pay closer attention to the music math problem, further assessing their note and rest value knowledge. These are a unique way to teach and assess musical note/rest value understanding in elementary aged students. Kids this age are playing with fortune tellers/chatterboxes (I called them cootie catchers as a kid!) anyway so you might as well teach them how to use them for music education.

This is a completely NO-PREP activity that is engaging and fun(I LOVE catching them playing with these at their recess!). This package includes 3 different fortune teller templates ready to print and go.

MUSIC MATH FLASH CARDS

This collection includes 45 different music math flash cards (plus one blank for you to add equations, if you want to.) This set includes both music notes and rests, addition and subtraction! You can separate them by notes your students have learned and add in additional cards as you learn more note/rest values.

Check out some FREE games you can play with these flash cards on my blog!

My kids LOVE music math. Music math is really easy (even your youngest kids know 1+1), music math is challenging enough because it requires kids to decode musical symbols, and music math is just an engaging way to assess your students’ note/rest recognition skills! Music math is such a great way to teach kids about note/rest values. ESPECIALLY if you play fun games with them (try ‘Around the World!’) Kids will learn their note values FAST when they need it for a competitive game situation.

*These cards can last a while if you print the cards, glue them to card stock, cut them out, and laminate.

In addition to helping my students comprehend the mathematical side of counting musical rhythms, this activity helps me incorporate math principles in my music classroom.
