What a fun way to learn how to read a time zone map! If you are doing this at the beginning of the year, it's probably football season, too. Your students will have fun playing football while learning how to read a time zone map. Your students won't feel like they are learning through all the fun! My students love this game!

This is football with a twist and modified for time limitations. Please always feel free to modify our lessons to meet the needs of your students and time restrictions. Enjoy!

OBJECTIVES:

1.  The learner will become familiar with a 24-hour (universal) clock.
2.  The learner will learn and use the meanings of a.m. and p.m. appropriately.
3.  The learner will review the Eastern and Western Hemispheres and will understand when traveling west, one subtracts time, and when traveling east, one adds time.
4.  The learner will become familiar with reading a time zone map.
5.  The learner will demonstrate an understanding of time zone changes by calculating the time at different degrees of longitude.

MATERIALS:

• Game Pieces: Footballs, Game board, 16 Game Cards
• Some Form of Projector to Project the game onto the board,
• wall, or large-screen computer.
• Time Zone Game Instructions
• Exit Tickets
• Patience. This can be a difficult concept.
