One-Step Equations with Algebra Tiles - Lesson - Digital and Printable
Description
Looking for a no-prep digital lesson to show students how to use Algebra Tiles to solve one-step equations? Students are first shown the value of each tile, and how to represent an equation using algebra tiles. This is followed by some practice slides for the students. To solve the equations, the colored tiles are moved around the screen in order to add zero pairs (addition and subtraction), divide into equal groups (multiplication), and divide an "x" algebra tile into equal sections (division). This lesson can be modeled by the teacher on the big screen while students work on their own slides individually. The final slide gives students a chance to be creative by finding the correct tiles to model an equation and using those tiles to create their own design.
Teacher Key and Video Instructions included.
Also included are a foldable for the interactive notebook, and a worksheet for further practice.
Main Points in the Lesson:
*Learning the value of each Algebra tile.
*Using tiles to model a one-step algebraic equation.
*Adding tiles to create zero pairs in order to isolate the "x" tile.
*Dividing the tiles into equal groups to break down multiplication.
*Dividing the "x" tile into equal groups to show division.
