Description

Engage middle & high school students in a hands-on interactive learning experience about the Paleolithic period by participating in survival challenges. This activity aims to teach teamwork, problem-solving, and historical knowledge about early human life. Prior knowledge is NOT required so consider using this product to introduce your Paleolithic unit-- what a FUN WAY to do that!

NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY so, this activity is a great way to start the unit and develop background knowledge. Or you can use to reinforce the lesson you have already taught them.

LESSON INCLUDED In addition to the activity, a lesson is included that can be used either before or after the activity. I like to use it afterwards because first I like to survey my students. The activity includes questions you can ask.

DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED. Teachers, this activity is well worth the effort! It is a fun learning experience for students. It hits on so many levels (interactive, critical thinking, historical knowledge, collaboration, etc.) that I always ask my administration to come observe. My instructions help you execute this activity without any stress!

LIMITED PREP NECESSARY: There are 20 slides that need to be copied-- just one set of copies is sufficient. The food tokens will need to be cut into pieces. You will need to set up the five stations and in order to do so, you will need some supplies (sticks, rocks, leaves, twine, paper, markers, scissors, glue, and clay). I always have my students help gather all of this. My school backs to woods, so sometimes I just give each team 10 minutes to collect their supplies. The kids love that!
