Description

This series of lessons addresses major concepts in Plant Reproduction and Development. The concepts of alternation of generations and the double fertilization in flowering plants are addressed. All pdf files have corresponding editable word files to allow any modifications you desire to make to meet the needs of your students. The lessons are correlated to the NGSS, Common Core and NY State Living Environment core curriculum.   The contents of these learning activities are well suited to distance learning needs.

The zip file pertaining to these activities contains the following items:

  • Plant Reproduction and Development PowerPoint with 35 slides
  • Plant Reproduction and Development Cloze Completion Notes with learning goals for students (correlates directly to the PowerPoint) (6 pages)
  • Marzano rating sheet for student self evaluation
  • 2 Plant Reproduction and Development worksheets with keys (4 pages)
  • Plant Reproduction and Development student practice exam handout (6 pages)
  • Plant Reproduction Examination with answer key (8 pages)
  • URL to a highly recommended lab from CIBT (1 page)
  • NGSS, Common Core and NY LIving Environment Core curriculum correlations (1 page)

NGSS Standard

Students who demonstrate understanding can:

HS-LS1-2. Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions within multicellular organisms.

Common Core State Standards Connection:

SL.11-12.5 Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.

Living Environment Core Curriculum

Performance Indicator 5.3

Relate processes at the system level to the cellular level in order to explain dynamic equilibrium in multicelled organisms.

Major Understandings

5.3a Dynamic equilibrium results from detection of and response to stimuli. Organisms detect and respond to change in a variety of ways both at the cellular level and at the organismal level.

Appendix A – Lab Skills

¥ Follows safety rules in the laboratory

¥ Selects and uses correct instruments

¥ Uses graduated cylinders to measure volume
