Description
These two political cartoons, The Plumb-pudding in Danger and The Monroe Doctrine, focus on America's relationship with the major powers of Europe. In 1823, attempting to curtail European interference with emerging republics in Latin America, James Monroe issued the Monroe Doctrine. This policy, along with the subsequent Roosevelt Corollary of 1904, would largely guide American foreign policy for the next century.
The download includes the following:
1. A PowerPoint - complete with discussion notes for each slide - that teachers can use to lead students through the cartoon.
2. An introductory paragraph that describes the circumstances behind each cartoon.
3. A full-size picture of each cartoon, allowing students to label as instructed.
4. A graphic organizer that assists students in identifying different parts of each cartoon, analyzing symbols, and determining the meaning behind them.
5. A series of questions based on each political cartoon.
6. An answer key for each cartoon.
For those seeking distance learning options, the assignment associated with each cartoon can be readily converted to a digital activity using Google Slides.
While you can purchase The Plumb-pudding in Danger and The Monroe Doctrine separately, I am offering them together here at a discount.
