Description
1.2 Great Hall of the Bulls - 1.4 Running Horned Woman - Prehistoric Rock Paintings Art Museum Exhibition
Instead of teaching the Great Hall of the Bulls and the Running Horned Woman as a PowerPoint, I decided to have students analyze these artworks with this digital prehistoric art museum lesson. This lesson focuses on the AP Art historical thinking skill of compare and contrast, allowing students to become exposed to this style of analytical thinking before learning how to write their FRQs.
Overview: In this activity, students will read two articles (a total of 5 pages) that cover the form, function, content, and context of the Great Hall of the Bulls and the Running Horned Woman. An option for students to take notes while reading the articles is included. Then, students will use the articles to complete the digital activity on rock cave paintings in prehistoric art. Finally, students will write a paragraph at the end focusing on compare and contrast.
This lesson aligns with the AP Art History Course and Exam Description, Unit 1: Global Prehistory, 30,000-500 BCE.
Differentiation: There are many different ways you can assign this complete lesson, including individually, in small groups, as expert reading stations, or completing it together as a class. A walk-through explaining these options more in-depth is included in the teacher notes.
